Creating Powerful Names for Products, Services, and Your Business

September 8th, 2008

The name of your business is important–it’s one of the first things potential customers know about it. And having unique names for each of your products and services can be a powerful selling tool. One way to make yourself and your business attractive is to have something exclusive and enticing, promising benefits. Good names for your business, products and services can do that. Good names market for you.

Do you have a hard time coming up with names? Perhaps you called your business ABC Enterprises, because you just couldn’t think of anything else. What does that name say about you and what you do? Nothing. Nada. Zip. It doesn’t tell customers why they would want to do business with you, because they have no idea what it is that you do, or who you do it for.

Here’s my favorite way to come up with a name. I call it “Idea Storming.” OK, I just did it to you. Marketing with a name, that is. “Idea Storming” is a name I came up with to describe one of my services. Brainstorming has been done to death. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt from the seminar. Idea Storming puts a slight twist on it. You recognize the concept, but it has a different name, and it ties to my Idea Lady identity. Not a spectacular example, but see how it works?

Anyway, I help my clients to Idea Storm, but here’s how you can do it on your own. Get a piece of paper and a pen. Write down every word or phrase you can think of to describe your business. What do you do? Who are your clients? What results do you get for them? What words would your clients use to describe what you do? How would they describe the feeling they got doing business with you? Why is your business better than others?

Once you’ve got a nice, long list, keep going. Get out your thesaurus (or use the one in your word processor) to come up with words with meanings similar to what you wrote down. Scan books and magazine articles for words and phrases that jump off the page at you. Talk to friends and associates, and get them to Idea Storm with you.

Now, take your list and start combining the words and phrases. Take this word and add it to that one. Use this phrase, but substitute that word. Take pieces of two words and make a brand new word.

I’ve used this method to come up with lots of names and titles over the last few years. This is how I created names such as The Idea Lady, Solo-preneuring, and many more.

Another great benefit of Idea Storming is that even the words and phrases you don’t use in your name can be used in a slogan, on your business cards, in sales letters, in brochures and in other marketing materials.

This technique is simple. But it really works.

What is Private Franchising? It is Nothing Someone Made It Up

September 6th, 2008

The Federal Trade Commission has an obligation to the general public, their stated consumer education mission and to the over regulated franchising industry and the small business operators running Biz Ops to separate the two business models by way of legal definition. Any failure to completely separate them will trigger additional problems down the road and cause the current on-going process of rule review to continue, without any formalization for decades.

This of course is good for attorneys who make money on these ambiguities for lawsuits and great for Federal Trade Commission tenure and job security. A few also realize it could allow for additional travel budgets of governmental employees during these rule making processes on the taxpayers money. It would also trigger more time-out, “let’s think about this one”-coffee breaks on various floors of the Federal Trade Commission’s fully furnished 1970 desk style ambiance. However it is not good for consumers or industry and creates unleveled playing field on one hand and complex barriers to entry for start-up entrepreneurs with regional dominance and efficiencies, which lend them selves well to the franchise business model on the other. This is because Biz Op MLM salespeople are purporting that they as similar to franchised business, by using terms like ‘Private Franchising’ in their presentation.

These MLM business sell in coffee shops and public presentations, which would send chills down the spine of any compliant franchising executive or real franchisor. So then, what is a real franchisor? What is private franchising? What is a Business Opportunity? What is an MLM business? What is a hybrid or cross-breed of any of these combinations? How on Earth in laymen terms can the Federal Trade Commission explain this to us, so that we might explain the differences to consumers when asked. Where on the Federal Trade Commission website is there a place which describes all of them and the possible variations? Due to the introduction of the term “Private Franchising” in the interim between 1999 comments and 2004 evaluations of possible definition revisions by Federal Trade Commission it appears that the definition landscape in the real world is hyperspacing the definitional upgrades to the franchise rule in the wonderful world of bureaucracy. We should not kid ourselves into thinking that the latest FTC report or any subsequent changes now, will change anything in the actual market place as to the number of; non-existent fraud events in franchising. The number of fraud cases in franchising is basically nil as per Federal Trade Commission’s own statements to congress. Yet the MLM crowd is manipulated truth by miss using the word franchising and that misrepresentation is damaging consumers. Think about it.

Toronto Minister Sees Benefit of Podcasting

September 4th, 2008

As churches try new methods to deliver their message, one Toronto-area minister
believes video podcasting has a future in the ministry.

Rev. Tim Elliott, honourary assistant at The Church of the Redeemer, and former
rector of Christ Church Deer Park recently released a video podcast of his
presentation Jazz for life: A pathway to balance.

The presentation is a mix of jazz piano, scripture and speech, and proposes that
improvisation, rhythm, listening and freedom are keys to living a balanced life.
Rather than being limited to a select group who attended the event, anyone can view
the presentation by downloading a copy of the podcast.

A podcast is an audio or video file published on the Internet and available for
download. Users can subscribe to the podcast and will automatically be informed of
new episodes as they are posted, said Sean Paddison, president of Northstreams
Inc., the company that filmed, produced, and hosts Rev. Elliott’s podcast.

Video podcasting provides an opportunity for churches to reach out to people who
may not normally be interested in attending a service, Rev. Elliott said.

“If the message is available, if you don’t have to go to church but you could
download the message and watch a podcast, then you might actually be interested
in going to attend one [service] and becoming a part of the Christian community,”
he said.

Because podcasts are published on the Internet, they are available to the entire
world, making anyone a potential viewer or listener.

“Podcasting is a great way to broadcast your message via the Internet. It allows you
to take any recording of your service or sermon and publish it online as a podcast,”
Paddison said.

“Once they have been uploaded to the Internet, podcasts are usually archived. So
not only can someone see the most recent service, they can download a service
from a week, month or even a year ago, if they wanted to.”

“Podcasting is the cutting-edge of Internet technology. Lots of people are doing it,
and even more are watching and listening to them. They are a great opportunity for
people to create quality productions without huge expense,” he said.

Churches often distribute cassettes, and in the past have broadcasted services on
the radio. Rev. Elliott believes podcasts have the potential to be the next step in the
evolution of distributing recordings of sermons and services.

A podcast could also appeal to those who are away on weekends or traveling and
want to stay connected to a church, or anyone looking for a message, he said.

“People that can’t come to church - that’s the elderly, the shut-ins and the sick -
the church traditionally has always been concerned about those folks,” he said.

Podcasting has potential because the clergy is innovative and often embraces new
methods and technologies to deliver their message.

“Most of the clergy that I know are highly creative people, and are usually looking
for opportunities for their own congregations to move forward and do interesting
things in ministry,” he said.

He points out that the clergy were some of the earliest users of the Internet because
it provided access to a large variety of music, so publishing services as podcasts is
quite viable.

Although Rev. Elliott sees the potential for podcasting, he still thinks the best way to
worship is as a group.

“I don’t think there’s any substitute for being together in person, but it isn’t always
possible these days. And so if people want to stay connected, there are
technological ways you can stay connected without having to be there.”

Podcasting: Internet Radio On Demand - and MORE!

September 1st, 2008

If you haven’t heard the term “podcast” yet, you will.

It’s about to blow the world of online audio through the roof as every Tom, Dick and Shirley can now operate a high powered Internet Radio station providing on-demand audio (and shortly, video) with nothing more than a microphone, simple software, and a little imagination.

Just like cable TV in the 1980’s gave smaller networks and individuals a voice on television, podcasting gives individuals a voice (literally) through online audio.

Podcasting is actually the audio form of “blogging,” where individuals share their thoughts in writing over time on a dynamic webpage known as a “blog.”

With blogging, subscribers and other blog publishers subscribe to and cross promote each other’s content by linking to and writing about each other.

With podcasting, the author shares his or her thoughts in audio form (MP3) and subscribers download and listen to the audio either on their computers, burn the files to CD, or transfer the files to one of the increasingly popular portable MP3 players.

In fact, the term “podcasting” draws its name from the iPod, created by Apple Computers.

Initially you might think the only people podcasting are geeks and computer nerds, but that’s not the case.

If you imagine “talk radio” meets “free cable access” then you have and idea of what pocasting is now and how it could evolve in the future.

Right now, any idiot (like me) with a microphone and something to say can create an online radio show.

This type of access to media that reaches a world-wide market enables smaller, niche publishers to develop a world-wide following that just isn’t monetarily feasible in traditional mass-media.

That means talk shows like “Chihuahua Breeding” or “Motorcycle Fashion Weekly” that could never hope to afford air time in a local market, can now develop an audience on the Internet.

Log on to PodCastAlley.com to peruse a wide range of available shows on everything from dog training to wine selection and tasting tips (one of the most popular).

Despite all this potential power, podcasting remains in an infancy stage right now.

But, the Internet has always proven in the past that a powerful but simple technology will always find a way to make itself felt quickly.

All it needs to explode is a few people to lead the way and show exactly how to use the technology to entertain and educate subscribers.

I also think two worlds will evolve for podcasting program publishers, just like cable vs. network television.

Some content will remain free (network TV), while some subscribers will gladly pay for more specific “niche” or pay-per-view content (cable TV).

As the quality of the programming increases along with more widespread acceptance of the tools necessary to consume the content (MP3 players and portable video players), podcasting will grow to stand beside other mainstream media.

It won’t happen overnight, and it won’t penetrate every market, but as members of the “global village” seek to find and feel a connection with like-minded individuals, regardless of their physical location, podcasting provides a cheap, powerful, and innovative solution for that basic human need.

Get a new home with easy loans, 329927 euro is not a problem

September 1st, 2008

Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 7 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. See which lenders are charging fees 5 percent and for how much. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 9 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’ In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 9 percent. Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 8 percent. But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 6 percent offered by competitors will change.

Different lenders charge different fees. It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property. To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 7 percent. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 4 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 8 percentage.

Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately.
