Publicity for Buzz Marketing for Authors

July 6th, 2008

Congratulations, you’ve written a book and even gotten it
published! Now, all you have to do is get people to buy it.
Getting people to actually enter a bookstore with the purpose
of buying your book is not easy because you’re not a “brand
name” yet. But you do have a potent weapon at your command–
the telephone. Use it.

Call the editor of the books section of your paper. Say you’d
like to send a copy to him or her. Ask if he has a few minutes
so you can briefly tell him about the book on the phone. After
you send the book, give her a chance to read or at least glance
at it, then call again.

If you can possibly tie the book to something in the news, that’s great. Let’s say you wrote Cooking with Chocolate and
the health section of your paper has an article on the health
benefits of chocolate. Call editors and reporters in the health, food and book sections.

If there’s a human interest reporter or columnist, call and then
send them a copy of the book. Human interest reporters can
usually write on anything that interests them. Try to interest
them in you. What did you do before you wrote the book and why
did you write it? Do you have eight children and wrote it at
your kitchen table every morning between 2:00 and 5:00 am? Did you gain 20 pounds writing the book? Or, did you lose
20–proving that chocolate really isn’t fattening?

Call the assignment editors at television news programs.
Frequently, if there’s an interesting hook, they will interview you. Track down book shows on radio and television
and call the producers.

Don’t be afraid to make the phone calls and don’t believe
someone when he says he’ll get back to you. He won’t. The
person who has the most to gain (you, in this case) has to
make the call. Too often people are afraid to call. Ask
yourself what’s the worst that can happen. They’ll say no,
right? Editors are not going to gather menacingly on your
doorstep or come after you with garlic and torches. They’ll
say no. Can you live with that? Of course, you can, so
call.

Put on a comfortable pair of shoes, gather up copies of the
book and hit the pavement. Stop in at every small bookstore
and beg to leave copies. I assume you’ve already called the
biggies. Offer to appear to talk bout and read from your book 9or doi a mini-seminar.

You’ve got to do things to create a buzz. The author of the
aforementioned book on chocolate could give away chocolate
bars with each copy. Or slices of cake she made (recipe in
the book) during her appearance in the bookstore. It
wouldn’t be a bad idea to drop off a cake with the book in
the newsrooms.

Don’t forget retailers. They might agree to do a window
around your book. I once got a prominent jeweler to do a
window with diamonds falling out of toe shoes and copies of
the book, written by a dancer, displayed.

Product Endorsement Joint Ventures: Short, Sweet ‘n Successful - Part 2

June 1st, 2008

Copyright 2006 Chonticha Marijne

Once you’ve found an Internet marketer who is interested in partnering with you, you can give them access to the product for their review and lay out the rest of the plan. The split should be 50-50, after deduction of payment processor fees. Unless you own the product or it can’t be found readily elsewhere, you should offer it at a significant discount. The list owner should send out the initial email and any follow up messages. As an experienced marketer, they will know how write an endorsement that is more editorial in style rather than blatant sales copy. The key is to offer the target audience help in solving a genuine problem, rather than trying to sell them a product outright. The people on the mailing list know and trust the list owner, so there are no spam issues to contend with and the JV partner does not have to disclose their valuable list to you. If you agree to offer the product at a reduced price, then it is highly recommended that you set up a separate web page so that you do not lose any orders at the regular price on any existing web pages.

Trust is required between the joint venture partners. To keep things above board, make sure that you provide proof of earnings, for instance by sending your JV partner a screenshot of your sales. If you select PayPal as your payment processor, then you should ensure that you use a separate email address that is unique to your JV to track your earnings. You can also set up a counter on the JV sales page to give your partner a rough idea of the number of visitors and possible earnings and you should also track the clickthroughs to the site with an ad tracking tool. When you’ve transfered your JV partner their share of the earnings, please make sure that they provide you with a receipt for your income tax return purposes.

If you’re not yet convinced of the power of the joint venture, let’s take a look at the most obvious benefits:

*A JV can be the start of a long lasting business relationship.

*A JV can increase your credibility if you choose your partner wisely.

*A JV is a low-cost, low-risk method to increase sales.

*A JV can lead to new customers, new leads, new subscribers.

*A JV can net you quick profits within a short time frame.

*A JV can offer you a new distribution channel.

Be sure to treat your joint venture partner as a valued equal and always think long-term. Satisfied partners are more willing to repeat the collaboration in future and good business relationships are invaluable! Provided you do it right, a joint venture will boost your online earnings with a vengeance. Once you realize how profitable and easy it is to set up a joint venture, you will want to replicate the experience over and over again.

Things I Learned from Corey Rudl

May 30th, 2008

On Wednesday, the first day of June, I received the following email from Corey;

Dear Leeuna,

Once I’m finished typing this e-mail, I’m crawling off to bed to sleep… I’m exhausted. (It’s about 4:30 a.m. and while I don’t normally drink coffee, I’m sucking back my third cup since midnight, and it’s not helping anymore…)

Last week was CRAZY.

He went on to say that he had just publically released, for the first time ever.. the newest edition of his famous Internet wealth-generating system… and had invited 250 people to help him prove to the world that it really works.

Apparently 250 wasn’t nearly enough to meet the demand because his office had been absolutely SLAMMED with e-mails and phone calls — more than they could keep up with.

So rather than make me wait for them to catch up, … If I could get back to him that day, he would just ship me his new system via Federal Express, completely at his own risk….

The following morning at 10:40, Corey was pronounced dead at California Speedway in Fontana! Dead at age 34 along with his friend, Benjamin Miles Keaton who lost control of the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT they were racing..

Now I know that he probably automated his email messages, just the way all the successful business people do, and perhaps he may not have written the email himself. However that isn’t the point. The point is that Corey Rudl kept in contact with his public on a level that made them feel as though each one was his close personal friend. He treated everyone as someone important. This was lesson number one.

Here was a man who really enjoyed helping others succeed. It came across in his teaching as well as through his business practices. He gave more than he asked for in return. While others were still charging thousands of dollars for their Seminars, Corey made it possible for the ‘not yet successful’ marketers to afford his training Seminars for a fraction of what they were really worth. Corey knew that in order to get something, you must give something in return. This was lesson number two.

Lessons number three through ten thousand were the basics of marketing and running a business.

The last lesson that Corey taught me was that life is short, money isn’t everything and the way in which you spend your life is often more important than how you spend your money.

Corey… you left behind a big pair of shoes for someone to fill. You will be missed…

Atrocious Advertising Detected: Mission Critical!

May 18th, 2008

You know folks, it seems like every corner I turn on
the web, I see more and more “yucky” advertising.
It’s daunting to see the fully avoidable mistakes we’re
making. And the worst part is, if we would just slow
down for a minute and examine what we’re doing, we
wouldn’t make these simple, yet costly errors.

I constantly see people, experienced and new, making
mistakes like these:

What’s that you’re promoting?:
First off, you should begin with you’re program or
business. You’re not promoting some flim-flam chain
letter are you? Or how about some free replicating
web page that will probably close down right when you
finally start to make a few dollars?

No, that’s not you. You did your research and built
your business around credibility, professionalism
and good old supply and demand, right?

Here’s a general rule of thumb that I like to follow:
Would you feel comfortable and “proud” recommending
your program or business to your mother? Hmmm.

Spelling mistakes:
Please take the extra 30 seconds and check the spelling
in your ads “before” blasting them everywhere. There’s
no bigger turn off for me than when I see ad copy with
a plethora of simple spelling mistakes. I thought you
were a professional businessman? But then again…

If you can’t spell that great, so what. Use your spell
check, or have somebody else look over your ads.
Heck, send ‘em to me. I’ll make sure your spelling is
correct. Trust me, this kills your credibility.

Triple check that URL!:
It really boggles my mind to see the shear volumes of
people not using the correct web site link or email
address in your ads. ‘Do not’ type your addresses in
your ads, copy and paste! Copy and paste the correct
links, and there’s virtually no way to mess it up.

Maybe that’s why that $50 solo ad never pulled in any
leads?

Furthermore, use the ‘mailto:’ and ‘http://’ prompts
in your address. This will make your links “clickable”
for everyone. Most email programs won’t hyperlink your
address if you just use, MarketingBlaze.com . But add
the ‘http://’ prompt and you’ll get a nice clickable
link like this one: http://MarketingBlaze.com .

Now, simply use the ‘mailto:’ prompt for your email
address: mailto:youremail@yourisp.com .
Isn’t that pretty?

(Pssst. Did you notice the space for the “.” after the
link. When using your web site or email addresses in
sentences, always put a space between the punctuation.
Example: mailto:youremail@yourisp.com . <-- Now your
links will always be ready for clicks.)

Hype:
Yep, the last thing people want to see when looking
through hundreds of ads per day is hype. You’ve seen
the ads, maybe you’re even creating these monsters…

“Join TODAY, Make $5,000 By Next Monday!!! GUARANTEED!”

Forget it. No way, next please. You know, even if your
program does work miracles, don’t go screaming it
around the web. I want to see credibility. I want to
trust you. Let me know how you can help me.
Instead try something like:

“Attention: Incredible Breakthrough Guarantees YOU Extra
Weekly Income”

That’ll get my click!

Your ad copy:
The most critical part of any ad campaign. Let me just
say this, spend at least 50% of your time on your ad
copy.

If a genie landed in your lap and granted you one wish
to benefit your marketing, what would you wish for?
To overcome your fear of writing articles? To master
the art of building web pages? Or how about the ability
to materialize million dollar ads, one after another,
just like the great copywriting pros.

Think about it. If you could create order-pulling ads
and roll them out into millions of dollars in profits
like the pros do, would you have any marketing problems
to speak of? I doubt it. You’d be one “rich” and happy
camper.

Well, I’m going to wrap this one up, leaving you with
these words…

You know the old saying, “It’s the small things that
count.” When you’re marketing on this wild and crazy web,
even the smallest of things can have a mammoth impact on
the outcome. With hundreds of millions of people online
at any given time (and growing at such an alarming rate)
the Internet will gobble you up, and spit you back out
if you’re not paying attention.

So keep your eyes open and never stop learning.

Just Network, and Watch Your Sales Grow

May 1st, 2008

When it comes right down to the topic of how best to grow your online business, there is plenty of conflicting information on the internet. Why? Because everybody wants to make a dollar! Everybody has a program to sell, but few really offer a genuine program that helps YOU sell. What they offer is THEIR formula, not YOUR solution. “It worked for me”, they’ll say. Then, when it doesn’t work for you, they expect you to shoulder the blame. “Well, you didn’t do this right”, or “You didn’t follow the formula”. I don’t have time for those people. Here’s a fact: You already have the resources you need. You do not need to buy into anybody else’s program. For that matter, you don’t even need to buy into mine. All you really need to do is remember one simple word, “network”. Just network. Here are a few ideas to help bring it into focus.

Make Friends, Not Business Partners

This may seem contradictory to what you’ve learned or what you believe, but I’ve found the best people to do business with are the people who have earned my trust, my friends. I do not do business with those who assume I should just trust them. I’m sorry, but they’ve not earned my trust, and my trust can not be bought. Make friends, and do business with your friends. This is one reason why I refuse to throw my website on auto-pilot. I want people to know that there is actually another living, breathing person on the other end, and I want to be accessible to those people who choose to do business with me.

Wish Others Success

When you truly wish others success, you are attracting success. I make it my mantra. “I wish you success. I wish you success. I wish you success.” I truly do wish success to those I choose to do business with, because I choose to do business with those who would wish me the same success. I do business with friends.

Then, help your friends succeed. Trade banners, trade links, and really get into the business of promoting each other. Contribute to each other’s newsletter. Do what’s right and good for both, and don’t be afraid to take chances. Try something new.

Search For New Opportunities

Look for additional streams of revenue. Find opportunities that do not take you away from your business, but enhance your business. Affiliate programs, drop ship programs, joint ventures, and even MLMs can provide that stream of revenue. But, at the same time, be aware. Be careful. But be willing to follow your instinct. Just remember to make friends, not business partners.

By all means, don’t hesitate to contact me. I’d love to build a friendship and network with you!

Direct Safe List Email Marketing And SEO Articles Exploded My Adsense Earnings

March 23rd, 2008

There is enormous and almost frightening power in combining direct safe list email marketing with SEO articles. I was able to see a dramatic improvement in both traffic and Adsense earnings at my sites.

Direct safe list email marketing has been ignored by many webmasters because of the quick association of email in many people’ minds to illegal SPAM. However the fact is that direct safe list email marketing is not only SPAM-free and legal, but it is a way of reaching a huge audience very quickly.

Here are some of the reasons why direct safe list email marketing is so powerful;

a) Direct Safe List Email Marketing Creates Huge Instant Traffic
Contrary to the thinking of some, direct safe list email marketing should not be used to try and sell something directly. Email marketing is most effective when it is simply used to direct traffic to a site. Email is very effective in this and it is possible to generate a huge amount of traffic almost instantly.

b) Direct Safe List Email Marketing Speeds Up Link Generation
When SEO promotional articles, complete with an appropriate resource box containing your links are distributed direct using safe list email marketing, chances of many more webmasters picking up the article for re-posting greatly multiply. When your article is re-posted at a web site with the links to your site intact in the resource box, this creates a valuable one way link pointing to your site. Link generation is the most powerful SEO tool and in this way it is easy to quickly generate hundreds of links pointing at your site.

Creativity, Fun, and Originality in Internet Marketing?

March 22nd, 2008

Sometimes it seems to me that everyone on the internet is busy copying everyone else.

This is not entirely a bad thing, but this perspective can also be limiting.

Allow me to explain how creativity, fun, and originality can spice up your internet marketing.

While I certainly understand the concept of modeling, using the tried-and-true experience of someone else to cut corners, save time and money, and be on your way to depositing serious amounts of money into your bank account, I also wonder if this is entirely a significant and worthwhile maneuver.

You see, there is no one quite like you.

You are utterly unique.

And while I’m not going so far as to recommend that you cleave entirely to fresh origination, I think that something worthwhile may come of letting your brain experiment with an original thesis.

Economically, things could go either way.

Your original rendition of an old theme or your creation of something entirely new may or may not make an impact on your end-of-day receipts.

However, from the perspective of personal satisfaction, there is a delight to creating a product that no-one else has made, proposing an idea that has never been pitched before, or stepping on a creative landmine in the middle of the night that keeps you on high alert for the rest of the nocturnal hours.

There is something entirely unique about you, and when you roll it out, find it meets with an unexpected public frenzy because it offers an unprecedented solution, your feeling of personal satisfaction and achievement surpasses anything that you may earn.

Of course, however, it’s always wonderful to win a complete coupand have your brilliance rewarded with numbers ending with numerous zerosbut that thrill is secondary to having the opportunity to be dazzling.

Perhaps a compromise is possiblebetween the bread-and-butter affiliate and resale right products and the methodology espoused by your adopted guruand your own occasional creative flair.

This way, you are assured of an income, and yet also have the freedom to play with an idea birthing in your brain alone, waiting to grow up enough to pull on its pants and go out there and do unbelievable electronic back flips to an amazed world.

Every unique idea in your brain needs to be treated with the respect due the dauphin of the kingdom. Treat the heir to the throne well, and he may very well surprise you with his empire-expanding vision.

The internet can be more than a place where you make a great living, it can be a playground for a whirlwind of creativity, fun, and original contribution.
