HOW GREENHOUSE GASES WILL DESTROY THE EARTH.

By Arthur Zulu

Death came swiftly for the Great Julius Caesar on his way to the capitol. And one of his murderers? Brutus, a trusted friend!

If you talk of betrayals, more bizarre things have happened. For even Agamemon — conqueror of lands and of mighty men, was killed by his own wife!

But pity neither Caesar, nor Agamemon. For your best riends are this moment betraying you. They have dug your grave, made out your coffin and are preparing to announce your obituary, even while you are still alive!

But hold on before you dispatch hired assassins to good old Billy, or faithful Penelope, and end up in the dock for first-degree murder. Who are these friends?

They are greenhouse gases. Now, try this experiment. Find
a hot corner of the street, park your car there, and shut yourself inside with the windows closed. How do you find
the experience?

The car will be terribly hot because while the transparent glass lets the sun’s rays in, it cannot let out the dangerous invisible infrared radiation. You will be killing yourself!

The same story proves true for the earth’s atmosphere which acts like the glass in a greenhouse. It traps the
sun’s heat thereby warming the earth. Without it, the
earth orbiting in the cold, empty space, would freeze!

But too much of a good thing is bad. The greenhouse gases
– our friends which make us warm, are turning into our enemies. Let’s see their dubious roles.

WATER VAPOR
As our friend, it absorbs heat. But as our enemy it cooperates with other gases to sound our death knell.

CARBON DIOXIDE
As our friend, it traps heat and sustains life. But we have produced too much of it that even the plants and the ocean cannot absorb, and the surplus is turning up the earth’s temperature.

METHANE
As our friend, this natural gas is as useful as carbon dioxide. But it has turned into an enemy because we have produced twice as much as we need, and the excess is making it impossible for the atmosphere to disintegrate other dangerous gases.

CFCs
As our friend, when chlorofluorocarbons are in the lower atmosphere, they are efficient heat absorbers. But when they rise up, they become our enemies because they go to destroy the earth’s protective umbrella, the ozone.

NITROUS OXIDE
As our friend, this laughing gas like CFCs absorbs heat when it is in the lower atmosphere. But when it goes up, it destroys the ozone.

OZONE
This gas is our friend when it is in the high atmosphere where it filters deadly ultraviolet radiation, the cause of
skin cancer. But when it comes down, it becomes our enemy.

Since these greenhouse gases are being added into the atmosphere daily from the use of fossil fuel, how can the danger of mass poisoning be avoided?

Well, Homo Sapien the smart has already dreamed up solutions:

Man will harness solar power to replace conventional ones.

Man will invent clean burning hydrogen fuel in place of
the hazardous petroleum products.

Man will make a gigantic parasol to shield the earth from
the sun’s dangerous rays.

Man will reforestate the globe to suck up excess carbon dioxide.

Man will fire up giant laser rays to kill CFCs before they damage the ozone.

Man will use solar power satellites to collect solar energy from space, and send it down as microwaves, or laser beams, for use in place of burning fossil fuels.

Man will …. That’s enough. Thank you man the wise. Clap for yourself!

Let’s hope that you will fix the greenhouse gases before
they cover your grave!

Are You an Algebra Dropout?

June 6th, 2010

Algebra is a remarkable branch in Mathematics, which deals with equations, inequalities, fractions and expressions. Being one of the leading subsections of mathematics, it forms an whole part of primary education. combinatorial mathematics, variables, polynomials and factorization are some of the mainstream areas that is being dealt by mathematics. As you move along advance algebraic equations, you will deal with symbols and set theories which allows you to compute unknown values based on predetermined facts.

Algebra and its Roots of Geometry

Geometry is focused on using algebraic expressions to calculate dimensions of a circle, determining if a curve is a parabola or hyperbola or even pinning down the vertex of a hyperbola. From the very fundamental computations of computing the midpoint of a line or the radius of a circle to the more complex operations of determining if a parabola opens down or to compute its directrix, algebra makes its presence visible to a high level of purpose in the field of geometry.

Algebra - Solving Equations & Exponents

Algebra can solve any equations from linear or quadratic to radical or exponential . Using algebraic expressions one can solve inequalities and even graph systems of non-linear equations and radical inequalities. If exponents have been troubling your head, a thorough grasp of algebraic expressions will ease the pain allowing you to work through it easily. Algebra works with the Laws of exponents by facilitating one to add, subtract, divide and multiply expressions with ease and assurance.

Rooftop Wind Turbines

May 21st, 2010

Of course, building a rooftop wind turbine work best when you have a nice big house, but a small house work as well.? Typically, an average wind generators are employ in areas that spread over an acre.? The bigger, the better.? However, a rooftop wind turbine, especially made for your roof homes works the same as those installed on a tower connecting to your house,? Moreover, the average wind speed in your area have to be around 11 miles for hour. This article is about how you can save a lot of money with DIY wind power. The difficulty of diy wind power is that not enough people know of the savings. You can easily save 80% of your electric bill with a simple wind generator that costs less than a few hundred dollars. Of course you can always head out and buy one, but by far the more rewarding and cost effective method is to build the wind turbine yourself - and the great news is that this is a lot easier than you think. The Earth4Energy guidebook shows you exactly what you need and also shows you how you’re able to purchase the parts at a cost-effective price. ? The final step is making use of the electricity generated. The gas prices are increasing, the energy prices are increasing, yet we don’t realize the potential of home wind power kits, the potential of wind power and alternative sources of energy. I personally am sick and tired of hearing the news, every news broadcast contains ‘price increase’.The small wind generators that dominated the last decades were needlessly complicated and as a result expensive. These problems were taken care of to the point that almost anybody can understand exactly how to build these machines for cheap. Wind Power Facts

Must See Sights of Cuba

August 25th, 2009

The Caribbean is a beautiful area in the world, and Cuba is no exception to that rule. Cuba holidays will be fun, scenic and memorable. Go there and check out these fascinating places.

You can’t visit Cuba without seeing Havana, the capitol. The history is abundant. Take a walk along the Malecon stretch along the beach. Look at all of the architecture that takes you back to the 1950’s. The cafes are lively, and the spirit is high. Enjoy the city.

Another must see on a Cuba hotels in Santiago de Cuba. This is the “second city” located on the southeast coast. It has a strong African culture. There are many small streets and alleys and Calle Heredia is the main street. There are fascinating houses and museums all in one small area. If visiting in July, there is a canival not unlike the one in Rio.

On the southern coast are the historic cities of Cienfuegos and Trinidad. Trinidad is more African in its appearance and Cienfuegos is Arabic-like. You need lots of time to explore these two cities and get the most out of them.

Getting away from the coastline will take you to Santa Clara. This is in the rural heart of Cuba. It’s an artist sanctuary and is surrounded by sugar cane and jungle. This is the real nature of Cuba.

Cuba holidays always include the culture. There are loads of statues and art galleries. Music and dancing is happening every day or night in the active nightlife everywhere on the island.

The best way to enjoy Cuba holidays is by car. You can hire one and the roads are not too bad. The domestic airline is the other way to get around if you have a time limit.

Cuba holidays will be enjoyed.

Benefits of Studying Algebra

August 9th, 2009

Algebra delineates relationships between things that change over time. These variables include things similar to the relationship between supply of an a product and its price. Math is not an easy subject for many pupils. Many software applications are available with a mixture of subject field introduction so students able to handle any capacity of learning algebra can work around the subject without difficulty. These applications also helps students to understand importance of Algebra in real life as well as within industry arena. Larger functions utilized in algebra include Graphing radical inequalities , Solving compound inequalities , Solving quadratic inequalities , Adding and Subtracting matrices etc.
Algebra is an important course but students can be weak-kneed initially if they do not work hard enough in early stages. This makes initial math skills necessary to help students successfully pass algebra and go on into higher math with assurance.

How to Successfully Deal With Algebra

The algebra software on offer in the market today offer far more useful guidelines and help than what is included in formal textbooks, such as homework assistance, interactive tutorials, games and a worksheet tool or graphing calculator. The most useful software have all of these components - ease of use and covering of all the topics.

Such instructional tools come in handy when various forms such as audio, video, animations and games are put in to use in order to instruct the lessons. Schools and colleges require that students complete algebra courses from pre-algebra to algebra II. Important topics normally include: Finding complement of an angle, composition of functions, finding type of polynomial, determine if line is horizontal

How to Operate Algebra Software

Some algebraic software would only show results, while other (much more suitable for elementary algebra) give away techniques and ‘how-to’ guides on math rules that are being used. Students mostly concern over the ease of use of software. Thus, the software ought to be loaded with value added options like high quality and timely user assistance, coordinated help options, and easily laid out algebra tutorials.

Diagnosis Mesothelioma Means Advanced Expertise

June 30th, 2009

Cancer of the mesotheliumwill show a few primary symptoms. The main symptom of pleural mesothelioma is a lack of breath due to pleural effusion ” the increase of fluid in the membrane, or pleura, around the lung. The second most common symptomis chest pain due to the tumor invading the chest wall. Additional symptoms include night sweats, weight loss and exhaustion.

The most common sign of patients with abdomen mesothelioma, which is centralized in the abdomen, is fluid buildup (known as ascites) in the abdomen causing abdominal swelling, abdominal pain, and bowel obstruction.

It is important to note that these symptoms could be caused by a myriad of diseases or conditions. But if you have experienced any of these symptoms and have had asbestos exposure, you should see your doctor.

Mesothelioma is difficult to diagnose, because the symptoms are also experienced in less serious health issues. Typical symptoms:

  • Having trouble breathing
  • Chest or lower back pains due to accumulated fluid in the pleura
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Breathy voice
  • Having trouble swallowing
  • Coughing blood

One should not self-diagnose themselves. People suffering from the above symptoms should remain calm and consult a doctor. A biopsy is the primary way the condition is confirmed. A pathologist takes a sample of tissue from the suspected area and examines it to return a highly accurate diagnosis. Biopsies are typically pain-free.

A CT scan (Computer Tomography is an option if you dont want a biopsy. A CT scan is basically an X-ray procedure where cross-sectional images are taken as a scanner rotates around the body. Sometimes, the patient ingests a dye that helps define the picture. CT scans have the advantage of being non-invasive and easier, and they are recognized as being effective in diagnosis. Opinion is divided as to whether the scan is more or less cost-effective than a biopsy. If irregularities are detected, a biopsy may also be needed to know if the abnormality is a tumor, and if so, if the tumor is benign or malignant. It is also possible to diagnose pleural mesothelioma by taking a sample of fluid from the pleura and testing it for the presence of cancer cells.

Any of these methods may also be used to screen for mesothelioma. Patients who may think they are at risk but do not display any symptoms are typically screened, to catch the cancer early or to make sure the patient is not otherwise in danger. Patients who have in their past inhaled asbestos, should be screened for mesothelioma.

Making Algebra Interesting

April 27th, 2009

Let’s Explore Algebra

Algebra is a large part of mathematics that uses abstraction by exchanging letters for numbers. It is this abstraction that often scares many and thrills some. Algebra topics range by working through simple tasks such as factoring polynomials and eventually progressing on to finding the inverse of a matrix. Most people get down to study Algebra by adding, subtracting, reducing and simplifying algebraic expressions. later on, they would move on to more advanced stages of solving algebraic equations using the greatest common factors and converting fractions in to decimals.

Help!!! Exponents, Radicals and Graphing on the Way…

There are many advanced subjects. First there are powers. A power is the little number placed to the right and slightly above a number or algebraic expression. An example is (x + y)3 where the 3 is the power and denotes the power to which that number is raised. The above algebraic expression is read, x plus y to the third power. While working with powers you will oftentimes encounter exercises that require you to add, subtract, multiply and divide. If you pick up the fundamental principles, you will shortly start working with rational and negative powers and if you think those are not challenging enough, hopefully radicals will spin your head. A radical, in simple terms, is the undoing of an exponent. Radical expressions are denoted by the symbol “V” and when placed next to number 4, it is read as square root of 4, which is equal to 2. The reverse exponential equation is 2^2 which is read, 2 to the 2nd power, and equals 4. Equally with exponents, radical expressions can be added, subtracted, multiplied and divided. Radicals can be changed into powers and exponents back into roots. If you find that powers and radicals don’t really stimulate your interest, you could move on to graphing. The best way to start with graphing is to draw lines and try to figure out if they are horizontal, vertical or neither. Does the line have an x-intercept or a y-intercept? Furthermore, try and see if you can find the slope of a line. you master the mathematical art of graphing, you will discover a whole new world full of parabolas and hyperbolas.

Need Help?

If you are learning algebra and this all seems a little too much, don’t sweat. There are many resources out there that can help you master quadratic equations , quadratic formulas and polynomials . Look for math tutors or software programs that will walk you through gradual process on how to solve any problem. You can also use algebra calculators or algebra solvers. any of these tools can assist you become an algebra expert in very little time.

Heating it up with Solar, Part Two

November 17th, 2008

The second option for solar water heating is the Indirect Solar Water System. In this system, water is not heated directly, as it is in the direct system. Instead, fluids that are good at soaking up heat are used to absorb energy from the sun. Indirect heating soaks up rays of sun and transfers them to heated pipes which have a thin copper laminate on the back of them.

Now that you know it is possible to have electricity and hot water through solar energy, you may have another question:

Is it possible to heat our homes with solar energy as well?

The answer is: yes of course. As long as the sun can shine, we have a resource that is available to us on a daily basis. There are even ways for us to utilize this resource on cloudy days, by way of back-up systems. As far as energy from the sun to heat up our homes, that concept is possible too, because of “Radiant Heating Systems.”

You may have seen some of these in Extreme Home Make Over, or in Modern Home magazine. If you are living in an older home or a cabin in the woods, you might heat your home with the help of a fire place, or your home may have an outdated radiator system. Well, you are in luck, because there are solar water systems that are made specifically for heating homes. These take the place of big, bulky furnaces, which come with high gas bills.

A radiant heating system is connected to a water system that runs under the floor of your house. Sometimes they are even connected to wall panel radiators. With this new and modern technology, the heat is radiated up through the floor boards. How comfy it must be to step out of a shower in the midst of winter, only to find yourself standing on warm floors! It can’t get better than that.

In order to have this system constructed in your home, you must have a storage tank large enough to store at least 2-3 gallons of water for every square foot of the solar collector. This water is then piped through plastic tubing under your floors. This is the perfect solution for heat, because it is cost effective.

The advantage of this kind of system is that it will allow you to regulate the heat that radiates into the rooms of your home, because each room will house its own thermostat.

This is another system that you can create yourself, if you don’t want to hire someone to do it for you. These days, everything comes in ready-made kits for the consumer. After all, with today’s economy, it’s all about saving money.
